Sing A Long—A Few of My Favorite Things

When Karin invited me to write about three things I am thankful for in business, the Sound of Music song, “These A Few of My Favorite Things”, sprung to mind.

Gratitude is a personal value for me. I practice it daily. It supports my perspective as an optimist. My family is the greatest gift of all.

Here are my three gifts of gratitude: ( ♪♫♬ Sung to the tune of my favorite things!)

I am grateful for the blessing of a sharp mind and the ability to learn and share ideas with others.

I am grateful I can contribute to the world and my circle of influence.

I am grateful for the ability to engage in different perspectives when addressing issues and challenges while I seek solutions.

Have a wonderful holiday season.

Use the “F” Word, FUN, to Energize Your Team

In today’s stressful work environment, fun must be backed in to offer comic relief. Leaders must encourage humor and positive expression to slice through the thick veil of cynicism and stress.
A fun thing I read about was beginning each sales or staff meeting with 10 minutes of stand up. Of course, rules of engagement are key regarding use of language and civility. This method opens the team to receive in a more welcoming environment.

I hired a specialty company for a team building exercise. It was a fun, engaging activity that offered themes around team projects that could be completed in three hours.

Ours was to build a soap-box style race car and develop the excitement around it. Each member had an assignment. We wrote a team song and slogan and created a logo to be put on the side of the car. We had a squad that made up a cheer for supporting our team during the race. A driver was chosen that best fit into the car and two “pit” people were assigned to push! The other teams had different themes and a great time was had by all. It brought everyone together by the time dinner was served that evening.
