Spring Cleaning Is a Mindset not a Date on the Calendar!

Spring Cleaning is a marking point in the year. Such a faux deadline causes us to pause and give ourselves permission to stop and assess our lives, business, or actually changeover things in the house.
I advocate Spring Cleaning at least once a quarter, especially for my small business clients. That way, nothing can run too far afield without a corrected course or adjustment. There is rationale for this. When one does an assessment every 90 days, nothing can be that out of alignment that can ruin a business. Consider the PRN concept borrowed from nursing—PRN means “as needed.” Spring Cleaning is a concept that can be in that category, not just once a year.
To begin to build a Spring Cleaning tradition, here are four words I use to remind myself to be on point:
Promise
I reiterate who I am as a person and why I am in business. The premise of Positive Potentials LLC is to shake off the dry “leaves” and allow nourishment to reach new shoots (as part of our plant analogy)! This idea forwards the notion that clients can count on me to be present for them.
Renewal
This is when I remind myself there is always an opportunity for a fresh start. This is when I will learn something new, read about a topic of interest (like neuroscience), or imagine a place I’d like to go on vacation!
Refresh
Even when life and business are rolling along, it is important to stop long enough to refresh a perspective, take a deep breath for more O2, and do something to boost my energy so I can fully “show up” for my family, clients, and myself.
Respond
To avoid procrastination, which makes things stale, I get into action as quickly as possible. This is especially important to me if I’m stressed about something or avoiding a situation. My go-to-mode is to get into meaningful action—get moving, the stress reduces, and the results are their own reward!
The visual of a change in seasons (not all areas do) affects our perspectives. We can make it happen whatever date is on the calendar.

Coachcubas

As a credentialed business coach and analyst, one of my primary functions is to work with individuals and company managers to clarify where they are presently, where they would like to advance, and what tools they have and need to achieve their desired outcome.

I use a variety of tools to assess perceptions including Platinum Rule instruments, my experience and training in assessing behavior. My preferred tool is the EQ-i®, emotional intelligence inventory. I have specialized training on the EQ-i® and DISC Inventories and access to multiple other sources including a company culture index. I prefer the EQ-i® because it is the least judgmental instrument I have found. It focuses on strengths and areas of development related to the goals set by the individual. For example, people are more likely to apply the EQ-i®’s information rather than label themselves by the Myers-Briggs categories.
