I encourage my clients to be reader-centric. Focus your attention as if you are the reader. Direct your thoughts as if you are in conversation with someone.

Also, speak in "plain English" (or your native tongue.) Some professionals launch into "hyper-speak" because they

think using "big words" makes them sound more intelligent. Actually, it sounds phony and can make people feel uncomfortable. For example, the word "utilize" is over used. Instead, the word "use" is preferable in most cases. Consider, "use" is to employ, usually to put something into action, or consume, more in depth, while "utilize" is a practical application of something. There is a nuance.

When using a word processor, use only one space after punctuation. In typewriter days, the spaces could not be adjusted for wide letters like Em's (where em dash comes from!) and W's.
